The Order of Franciscan Penitents (OFP)
The Order of Franciscan Penitents (OFP), a religious Order in the Central Diocese of the CEC, recently held its annual retreat at the Cathedral Church of the King in Olathe, Kansas. The Order celebrates the Feast of St Francis of Assisi on October 4. This year the Spiritual reflection centered around three things of great importance to Francis: Creche, Cross, and Communion. OFP currently has 10 professed members, and one soon-to-be member who will make her profession on November 17 of this year.
The Order’s Chapel is located in Columbia, Missouri, and Bishop Michael Davidson of the Central Diocese is the Bishop Protector of the Order. Pictured are the ten professed members, our postulant member and the Bishop. The Order was founded in 2007 with seven professed members whose vows were received by Bishop Davidson. Three more professions followed in recent years, with one more to be made this year.
The Franciscan Order has dedicated itself to being a place and Order of prayer for the CEC as servants of the church following first and foremost Jesus Christ, and living according to the rule and example of St. Francis of Assisi. Membership in the Order is available for anyone in the ICCEC, lay or ordained. Information about the Order can be found at www.franciscancec.org.
